Consequence System
The Consequence System at Newark Academy
At Newark Academy we have the highest expectations of both staff and students in all aspects of academy life.
This means that we are proactive and preventative in our response to behaviour management across the academy. However, when student behaviour is disrupting learning, staff will respond quickly utilising our Consequence System. The Consequences System is designed to provide a high level of consistency in our approach to behaviour management across all lessons and to prevent persistent low-level disruption.
In this system, when a C1 is issued, children and young adults are given the opportunity to correct their behaviour (C1). The teacher at this point will intervene to support and guide the student to an understanding of what they need to do to ensure learning is not disrupted. If the disruptive behaviour continues and the student choose to flout or disregard the correction point or escalates their behaviour, this will lead to a C2 which will result in removal from lesson to a colleague support room.
Should a student receive more than 2 C2's in a day, then this will result in the student being removed to the internal Reflection Room.
Restorative Practice
At the forefront of what we do, is restorative practice. In a response to a C2 being issued, a student will be placed into a same day centralised detention for 45 minutes. It is during this time that staff will visit students to discuss what has occurred in the lesson and seek to restore expectations and ensure a resolution is sought for all parties.
