Welcome to The Hive
A message from our Librarian, Mrs Horner:
The Newark Academy Library is dedicated to promoting and encouraging a love of reading across the whole school. The Hive is at the heart of the school and is always buzzing with life. It is a vibrant and exciting space that brings people together in a calm, quiet and safe environment. The Library is managed by me, Mrs Horner, and a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteer Library assistants.
There are over 12,000 fiction and non-fiction books, with regular new titles to choose from and students can either enjoy these in school, or take them home. Students can access the Reading cloud via an app to view the library resources. With reading cloud students can reserve books and download resources and complete book reviews.
The Hive provides the relevant resources to support teaching across the school, working alongside different departments including a range of multi-Media resources accessible for all students’ interests and subjects. Students can also access support with reading, interventions and independent learning at various time during the week.
Creating a wellbeing display is a great way to start a conversation about mental health and wellbeing in our school Library. It can also be used as a tool to support students who are struggling with their mental health, helping them feel reassured that there is support available for them. The Library has updated displays including new book arrivals with books and resources to appeal to all students. We have regular competitions and activities to encourage and promote reading.
Turbo the tortoise is a regular visitor to The Hive, he’s very popular with the students and staff.
During lunch time students enjoy a game of chess and enjoy the safe space and garden area.
