KS4 Child Development
Our Child Development course will inspire and equip students with independence and confidence in using skills that are relevant to the childcare sector and more widely. It covers all aspects of child development, from conception to five years, as well as providing safe and nurturing environments. A GCSE in Child Development can lead directly in to careers working with children such as teaching support, nursery nursing and childminding, as well as careers after further study such as social work, nursing and teaching.
You will study three units of work that explore:
- The health and wellbeing of the child from pre-conception to postnatal care and conditions for development
- How to create a safe environment and understand the nutritional needs of babies and young children
- The growth and development of babies and young children and how children learn through play
You will be assessed through two pieces of coursework that are marked in school during year 10 and year 11 and then moderated by the exam board, and one exam which will be completed at the end of year 11 .
The Child Development course comprises of 60% coursework and 40% external exam.
