Healthy Minds Week

Next week is Newark's Healthy Minds Week and we have dedicated part of our timetable to raising awareness on mental health.

On Monday our year 7 & 8 students will be receiving a talk / workshop on mental health with a specific focus on self-harm. These sessions are delivered by an external mental health professional with years of experience, who's delivery is very sensitive, age appropriate and light-hearted. The deliverer will touch on subjects such as prevalence of mental health disorders in young people, including depression, anxiety and suicides.

We will also be offering sessions on self-esteem and body image to students in KS3 & KS4, which will be delivered by Freed Beeches. These sessions will aim to improve confidence whilst providing essential information to support well-being.

Some students have received an invitation to attend a local mental health consultation that will be facilitated by Newark Mind & The Shaw Mind Foundation. This will give young people an opportunity to improve, have a voice and feed into local improvement for support around mental health.

The aim of these sessions is to help support our school community in addressing the stigma of mental ill-health by creating an environment that is accepting and understanding, with a vast range of support opportunities for our students.
