Newark Academy BAKE OFF

On Wednesday, 22nd February Newark Academy hosted a Bake Off Competition, inspired by the The Great British Bake Off.

The students decided they would like to raise funds for the local community and invited members of the Rotary Club of Newark Castle to help with their event. To participate in the competition, bakers were invited to submit a cake, along with an entry fee, with the aim of raising money for the Rotary Club's Disaster Recovery programme, for shelter boxes and water filters.

The students created some fantastic innovative and delicious bakes, making it a tough competition. Judging the creations were Pat Mallard and Jonathan Gant who are both accomplished bakers. The competition created interest throughout the school and everyone enjoyed the task of sampling all the entries with great enthusiasm.

One of the judges, Jonathan Gant, owner of Simply Elegant Cakes said: “What a privilege it was to be asked to judge Newark Academy's Bake off. The quality of the entrants cakes were amazing and they were all very different. To be a part of such a fantastic event at the Academy can only enrich the students learning. Everyone took the challenge head on and produced some fantastic cakes which they should be proud of.”

The Rotarians have been supporting Newark Academy on a number of initiatives in school around careers and this is the first of many events to help raise money for one of their worthy causes.
