Busy term ahead for the PE department!

This term sees even more opportunities for students to shine through a number of different sports (Physical Education - 23/01/2017)

January sees the start of the Indoor Cricket season where we represented Nottinghamshire at the regionals last year. We will be fielding teams in the U13 and U15 competitions. This opportunity is through the ‘Chance to Shine’ scheme which has been put into place to increase the participation in cricket.

We will also see the year 7, 8 and 10 Central Leagues for Netball that lead through to their county competitions in March. These were hampered by weather last term so hopefully we will be able to fulfill these matches to gain valuable match / competition practice.

Newark Academy will also be competing in and hosting the finals of the district Sports Hall Athletics at the end of January. Not only will we be fielding a strong year 7 girls and boys team but we will be using our Level 1 and Level 3 Sports Leaders to run the event as part of the leader’s assessment.

As we move into February the County Round of the Cross Country will be first on the agenda. We had a fierce competition at the district round and had the most successful year in a long time with 15 students and the year 7 team qualifying through to the counties.

The department then sees the exciting development of the football and netball tours building up momentum for their departure at the beginning of the Easter holidays. 52 girls have taken up the opportunity to compete in an International Netball competition in Paris with the added bonus of staying in, and tickets to, Disney Land, whilst 20 boys will be traveling to Germany for their Football tour.

Not only do our sport stars shine within school we have a large number of students who compete on a regular basis outside the school competitions. We will be featuring some of these athletes with Athlete Profiles very soon. Some of the sports that our students compete in are Archery, Swimming, Triathlon, Pentathlon, Boxing, Kick Boxing, Hockey and many more.
