Newark Academy 2K

The last week before half term saw all students from 7 to 10 taking part in the annual Newark Academy 2K time trials. Each class took part in their first lesson of the week and right from the off we saw some fantastic runs.

The Year 7’s dominated the week with every lesson seeing more records come crashing down. Tuesday saw, not only the year 7 record, but the Key Stage and School record broken. Sophie Ballard ran at a consistent pace out performing all other girls throughout the school from last year, crossing the line in a time of 10 minutes and 29 seconds. On Wednesday it was the turn of the last year 7 group to run, and yet again records crumbled. This time it was the boys who took the lime light with Lucas Hearn crossing the finish line 10 seconds ahead of the previous record, recording a time of 9 minutes and 16 seconds.

The other year groups also had a battle for the records. In year 8 Ella Mahon fought hard to gain back the girls title only to have it taken the very next day by Jessica Ward. Jess ran the run of the week smashing the record and crossing the line in under 10 minutes – the first girl to do so.

The year 9 girls continued the record breaking runs with the top 3 places all breaking last year’s times. But it was Molly Moon and Sophie Rouse with nothing between them as they fought it out for the line smashing the record by over 1.5 minutes. The boys ran a solid race with the top four all coming in under 10 minutes. Ben Clarke topped the rankings just getting in under 9 minutes and smashing his time from last year.

The girls continued with the record breaking ways in the year 10 race. Lauren Soles smashed the record and her previous time by over 1 ½ minutes, setting the year group and key stage record.

Students will receive certificates after half term for the records they hold and for some outstanding performances. Well done to all performers!
