Curriculum Intent

In Psychology, students are encouraged to question and hypothesise about the way we think and behave. By exploring key topics in psychology, students are taught the skills necessary to be able to consider what makes humans human.

In the 6th form students follow the AQA course. In year one, students will cover the topics of memory, social influence, psychopathology, and attachment. In year two, the topics are optional and the choice of topic will be student led. This may include schizophrenia, forensic psychology and relationships. Across both years students cover biopsychology, approaches to psychology and research methods.

Teaching and learning in psychology is designed to enable students to utilise and develop a range of skills including practical research skills, extended writing, critical evaluation and data analysis. Activities will include research tasks, group projects and presentations, class discussion and creative thinking tasks.
